Obituary of McGAVIN – Lucie Erica

November 30, 1932 – October 13, 2009 Lucie was born November 30th, 1932 in Biel/Bienne Switzerland and pretty much grew up in this watch making town. Once she finished business college she began traveling the world where she met her future husband Richard Morton McGavin in Vancouver Canada (and married in 1959). They had two children James (born in New Zealand) and Caroline (born in Biel/Bienne). They settled in Calgary in 1965 and within months Richard passed away. She raised her two children as a single mother to the best of her ability. She continued to travel and thoroughly enjoyed living in other countries New Zealand, Australia and the USA once her children were finished school. Her interest were languages (seven), baking, improving her small house, tennis, traveling and most of all enjoying the outdoors with friends in the mountains and at the ocean. In her final ten years she struck an affinity with the Sunshine Coast in Australia, which became her favorite place. Private services were held at her sons house where 30 friends from the Calgary Senior hiking and skiing club were in attendance to share memories of her. She gave to many charities and friends over the years plus was involved in extensive volunteer work, where she will be missed. It was discussed with her son in May this year that it would be fitting for her to be cremated and half her ashes combined with her daughters and dispersed at the lake in Biel/Bienne (with her brother Marcel, sister Georgette and family in attendance). The remainder of her ashes will be sprinkled at another lake in NZ (Lake Wanaka where she lived with her son James) and finally the remainder of her ashes will be dispersed at her favourite walk on the Sunshine Coast (from Maroochydore through Alex Headlands to Mooloolaba) in Australia.
