Obituary of HALAS – James Richard

March 22, 1949 – October 8, 2009 James Richard Halas (Jim), aged 60, died on October 8, 2009 while doing one of the things he liked best, walking near his house in Lake Cowichan, BC, of heart failure. Jim was born on March 22, 1949 at the Calgary General hospital and is survived by his mother Charlotte and brothers and sisters Pat, Donna, Michelle, Sam, Joe, Louis and K.C. Jim enjoyed the small town childhood provided by the edge of the city community of Ogden and attended Ogden Elementary School and Sherwood Jr. High School; ending up at Western Canada High School. Jim spent 12 years in the armed forces after which, with a short stint in Calgary, he found the land his heart yearned for, the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Jim was predeceased by his father, Micheal James Halas in 1976. Jim was cremated in Nanaimo, BC and his ashes will be handled by Michelle, Sam and Louis.
