Obituary of HUBERT – Dahrlyne

April 4, 1941 – October 6, 2009 On Tuesday, October 6, 2009 Dahrlyne Hubert left this world at the age of 68 years. Born in Trail, BC., Dahrlyne was the only child of Leora Calvert (nee Anne-Marie Benner) and Alex (Royd) Calvert (nee Albert Alexander Stanway). When she was just a few months old, her parents returned to Calgary where her father enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Shortly thereafter, she and her mother made the long trek to Montreal because her father was training there. A few months after that, she and her parents came back to Calgary where they stayed until after WWII. When Dahrlyne was five, the family moved to Red Deer where they remained for three years. In the fall of 1949 they moved to Medicine Hat where they stayed for just a year. In 1950, they returned once again to Calgary where they lived for the rest of their lives. On April 14 of 1962, Dahrlyne married her true love and soul mate, Herald Robert Hubert. Sadly, the marriage lasted only five and a half years. On October 2 of 1967, Herald succumbed to cancer. Dahrlyne never remarried. Dahrlyne was a passionate learner, taking courses on everything and anything. She particularly liked learning languages and studied German at the University of Calgary. In 1971 she received a scholarship to go to Germany to study German at the Goethe Institute in Schwabisch Hall. She also took courses in Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, and of course, French. She was part of a French “class” (more of a social group) for many years. Dahrlyne loved animals. Throughout her life she had two dogs and was “owned” by a number of cats. She was also passionate about classical music, which she listened to every day. In later years, Dahrlyne suffered with arthritis which limited her mobility and ability to do many of the things she enjoyed, such as dancing. Dahrlyne is survived by her aunt Evelyn Cooper of Montreal, Quebec; Uncle Vic Benner (Joyce) of Calgary, Alberta; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her darling husband and soul mate Herald Robert Hubert and her beloved mother Leora Calvert on April 14, 1990, co-incidentally, the same date of Dahrlyne and Heralds wedding in 1962. She was also predeceased by her dear father Alex (Royd) Calvert on July 16, 1998. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Queens Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
