Condolences
I first met John during summer 1949 during our first year of COTC Signal Corps training at Kingston, Ont.
In 1950 I transferred into 3rd year electrical engineering at U of A, from U of S; and lo! Here is my first friend from the year before. We greeted each other with the Urdu word I had taught him:”SHUKRIYA”. I did not feel strange at all as a transfer student because of him! I also had the pleasure of meeting his lovely wife Agnes.
Our friendship continued through the years, when we attended our periodic Engineering Reunions through to the 55th Engineering Reunion in 2007, along with our wives Agnes & Ardis.
Ardis & I were most grateful to both John & Agnes for attending our 50th wedding anniversary at the Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton in 2007. His witty remarks had our invited guests rolling in the aisles!
I will always remember John for his warm & witty friendship till my own time comes!
Have a great time in Heaven Johnny Westalake!
Your friend of 60 years!
Even in sadness, you must feel pride in the legacy left by someone as special as John. With sincere Sympathy to you Agnes, and each of your family.

I was shocked to read about John’s passing this morning in the Herald: especially since he is exactly 17 days older than me. John and I started at SAIT on the very same day, September 1, 1962. I have always had a lot of pleasure in John’s company, and admired his wit, his wisdom and his vast knowledge. Later, I got to know Agnes as well. Unfortunately, I did not get to know any other members of the family, but I am sure Agnes will have their support in this time of sadness
Much Love,
Dorab Wadia
Agnes & family. My love, thoughts and prayers are with you. John was a very unique and special person. He thought Bizzy was one in a million but he was one too.
