BEERE Alice

Obituary of BEERE – Alice

November 10, 1920 – September 27, 2009 Alice Beere (nee Gibbons), cherished mother, aunt, and friend, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Alice’s strong character was forged on a prairie homestead near Hodgeville, Saskatchewan. Independent, astute, and determined, she strived for excellence. The Great Depression taught her many lessons of good management, sharing, and compassion. Alice worked hard, but she also loved to have fun and often danced the night away with her sister and friends at the Army and Navy Club. Colour delighted her both in the garden and in fashion, and she was a bright, multi-faceted individual who could turn a phrase just so! Alice worked in catalogue telephone sales at Sears for many years and volunteered for the very first Terry Fox telethon quickly organized to help Terry reach his million-dollar goal. Throughout her life, Alice’s quiet generosity made a difference to many individuals in need that she met along the way. Alice is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Peggy Jean; niece, Sharon and family (Maurice, Mark, Alan); “grandchildren of the heart,” Kaede and Kenji; and her dear, loyal friend, Gordon. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Norrie; sister, Phyllis; brother, Leonard; and companion, Bill. A Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Alice’s home.
