Obituary of Mary Dene O’CONNOR

January 11, 1935 – September 17, 2009 In the pink light of dawn on September 17, 2009, our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend surrendered her soul. She was a light in our lives and our time with her was our privilege and her gift. Dene had fond memories of her childhood in Shady Nook, Alberta. She moved to Calgary in 1953, to pursue a nursing career where she met the love of her life, Vince. For 52 years, she inspired her husband in a wonderful and loving marriage. Her huge heart and unlimited capacity for caring provided a loving foundation for many happy lives. Her children, grandchildren, extended family and long-time friends will be forever grateful. She touched the lives and hearts of all who crossed her path and made those who knew her better people. Dene dignified every acquaintance with sincerity and will live long and well in all those who knew and loved her. “I only hope I’ve lived – when I am old, and traveling life’s last miles, to have a host of friends to walk with me.” She embodied all that is great and beautiful in the world, and our lives are forever altered: her loving husband, Vincent; her children, Maureen O’Connor, Erin O’Connor (Tom Orlady), Brenda McInnis (Michael), James O’Connor (Bonita Croft) and Michael O’Connor (Alison); her beloved grandchildren: Duncan, Logan, Colin, Maeve, Mireille, Brendan, Grace and Callum. She also leaves her sister Isabel Ramage and brother Donald Morrison, her soul sisters Marianne Longman, Shelagh Hudon, and Maureen Benning, and many, many dear friends and relatives who will cherish her memory. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Concelebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
