Obituary of REED – John Carl

John Carl Reed. August 22, 1972 – September 15, 2009. Resident of Calgary, beloved husband to Joyce Kalathil, father to Satya Reed, son of Alvin and Lela Reed, brother of Troy Reed-Walters, Shantal Dengate, and James & Christopher Reed, son-in-law of Kurian (Ken) Kalathil and Mercy Samson. Born in Mississauga, Ontario, John passed away after a brief battle with gastric cancer. John is survived by numerous family and friends. John was a kind, caring and intelligent child who grew up to be a compassionate, peaceful, loving and grounded man. After high school, John joined the Naval reserves where his natural self-discipline and pursuit of excellence led to an invitation to an elite diving team. John chose to pursue his lifelong passion for health and entered the Darcy Lane Massage Therapy School in London, Ontario. During his last year there John was diagnosed with lymphoma. In spite of this, John completed the program and was successful in his first battle with cancer. John headed west to Calgary where he met his beautiful wife Joyce in 1999. John and Joyce married on May 5th, 2004 and were joined by their beautiful daughter, Satya, on November 5th, 2007. John was committed to physical and spiritual well being, and helped create and develop Embody Wellness Centre in 1999 and Fruition Therapeutics in 2003. He also kept busy as a condo developer since 2004. John was a dedicated athlete who loved sports and became quickly adept at whatever he tried. He especially enjoyed running, but his other great joy was hockey. In 2007, John started the Red Lions hockey team and was a driving force behind their 2009 city championship. John Carl Reed was a man who through his life beat many odds, and overcame the many considerable challenges that were thrown his way. John did it with his customary grace, thoughtfulness and dedication-all the while, believing that his greatness would not merely be measured by his successes but also by the way he encouraged and enabled those around him to succeed. John’s family and his many friends will greatly miss him. We will always remember the miracle that he was and the miracles he inspired. Love and light, John – we love you with all our hearts.
