Obituary of WYKES – Brent Gordon Lee

September 23, 1970 – September 10, 2009 Brent Gordon Lee Wykes, beloved fiancé of Rhonda McAvoy of Star City, SK passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the age of 38 years. He was born on September 23, 1970 in Prince Albert, SK., son of Carol and the late Gordon Wykes. He moved to Calgary at the age of eighteen and started working as a draftsman. Following this, Brent started working with Westfair Foods and soon his interest in importing and exporting produce began. Over several years Brent worked his way up to Inventory Manager and enjoyed his work with the Federated Co-op for the last fifteen years of his life. He was very dedicated to his job and didn’t hesitate to go above and beyond to make sure everything was done well. Community involvement was also important to Brent. He donated his time annually for many years to the Calgary Produce Marketing Association during their annual Harvest Sale in Heritage Park. However, it was Brent’s two sons, Jeremy (21) and Kristian (15) who were the pride of his life. He cherished and loved every moment he had with them striving to be the best dad he could be. Brent loved to travel and he was looking forward to going on a trip with Rhonda, Jeremy, and Kristian, to the Caribbean. Brent also developed a passion for working out and training several times a week. He had a desire to excel in everything he did. He lived everyday to the fullest, and enjoyed every free moment he had with his family and friends. Brent will be greatly missed by his family and all who had the joy of having him in their lives. He is survived by his sons Jeremy and Kristian; fiancée Rhonda McAvoy; Sherry Dahl, the mother of his children; mom Carol Wykes (Gerald Holmgren) of Birch Hills; brother Brad Wykes (Judy Alexander) of Australia; sister Jodie Wykes (Kevin Tait) and their children, Geneva and Alea of Prince Albert; grandmother Mary Wykes; aunts, uncles and, cousins; also, Ramona and Murray Swenson and family; Kathy Holmgren and family of Birch Hills; Rhonda’s father Ron McAvoy (late Earla McAvoy); Rhonda’s brother Mike McAvoy (Gina McAvoy) and their children, Madison and Megan; and all friends who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his father Gordon Wykes; grandfather Jack Wykes; uncle Richard Wykes; and grandparents Marjorie and Jules Bourgeault.
