Obituary of O’BRIEN – Patrick James

July 12, 1939 – September 7, 2009 Patrick James O’Brien, the husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle we loved so deeply, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009 at the Agape Hospice with his family by his side. Pat will be sorely missed by his soulmate, his best friend, his beloved wife, Agatha (Dolly), who stood beside and with him for forty-five years. Also left to mourn are his two sons, Ken (Stephanie) and Terry (Christene) as well as his ultimate joys in life, his three beautiful grandchildren, MacKenzie, Brice and Kaleb. As a grandfather, no man could love them more. Pat, along with Dolly had a soft spot always for Charlotte and wanted her to know that love and kindness are never wasted. We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever. Pat is from a large family from Sudbury, ON. His parents, John Edgar and Delphine O’Brien and one sister Helen have predeceased him. His remaining seven siblings along with many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles share in the sorrow of losing this very special person. His parting message to all is that he is still 100%. It is difficult to express our gratitude for all the kindness and support received during Pat’s illness and passing. From the telephone calls, to the shared meals, to the support garnered by neighbours, to all the friends and family who kept a steady vigil at the Hospice, “thank you.” Special heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Agape Hospice, especially to the wonderful caring staff on all shifts. They made Pat’s last weeks bearable with their gentle care and understanding. The Royal Canadian legion, Branch 284, is recognized for their generosity, empathy and assistance. “Whenever we hear the whisper of the wind, Pat, we will know, it is just you saying ‘hello’.” Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
