Obituary of GOODCHILD – Helga

April 8, 1929 – August 24, 2009 We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Mrs. Helga Goodchild, beloved mother and grandmother. Helga passed away on Monday August 24th, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Born and raised in Germany, Helga moved to England when she became a nurse. She nursed in England for eight years then moved to Western Canada in 1959 where shortly thereafter she met and married her husband Walter Goodchild. Walter and Helga had spent almost all their married life in Oxbow, Saskatchewan having moved to Calgary in the summer of 2006. Helga was an avid reader and her deep love of books was evident by the hundreds of volumes that lined the shelves of her library. She was also an enthusiastic gardener and even when she was no longer an active gardener she was still ready with a variety of gardening advice for anyone who needed it. Helga is survived by her four children, James (Betty), Kay-Lynne (Ed), Sharon, and Alison (Geoff); grandchildren, Chasity (Les), Andrew, Colin (Jenny), Christopher, Thomas and Kerri; and her special great grandchildren, Oliver and Paige and our soon to be expected new arrival Jordan. She is also survived by her brother Kurt Brase (Jutta) who still lives in her home country of Germany with his family. She is predeceased by her late husband Walter who passed away October 29th, 2008. As per Helga’s request, a cremation has taken place. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
