February 4, 1916 – August 9, 2009 Gladys Mary Hiner, born in Sedgwick, Alberta on February 4, 1916, passed away in Calgary on August 9, 2009 at the age of 93 years. Gladys was the last surviving child of her parents John Charles and Clara Gladys Bridges – her brother Charles having passed in 1976 and her sister Winifred having passed in 2000. Gladys is survived by Lee Fuge (partner Mary Jane) of Victoria and Lee’s children Vanessaa (partner Dave) Ennis and her son Travis, and Jennifer Harvey (husband Rob) and their children Bobbie, Cassie, Alex and Ryan, all of Calgary. Gladys is also survived by Terry Hiner (wife Laura), and their children James (wife Julie) and Matthew (wife Julie) also all of Calgary. Gladys spent her early years in the Edmonton area and came to Calgary in 1951. From the age of 16 she had various interesting jobs and spent her last 30 working years with Brinkerhoff Drilling (Challenger Drilling). Upon her retirement in 1981 the company dedicated a drilling rig in her honour – the Gladys H rig in Lafayette, Louisiana. In the 20 years after her retirement, Gladys travelled the world extensively, visiting many exotic locations including Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. She enjoyed being independent, was a keen gardener and loved her house in Glendale. She moved from her home at the age of 86 and finally resided in the Lodge at Valley Ridge. For almost her entire life, she was blessed with good health but eventually time caught up and her health deteriorated quickly over the past year. At Gladys’ request no Funeral or Memorial Service will be held. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to World Vision Canada, P.O. Box 76067, #240, 70 Shawville Boulevard SE Calgary, AB T2Y 2Z9 Telephone: (403) 254-6460, www.worldvision.ca.
