Obituary of LYE – Alfred George
November 23, 1914 – July 30, 2009
Alfred (Alf) Lye of Calgary passed away peacefully and with dignity on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the age of 94 years.
Dad was born in Winnipeg and moved to London, England as an infant, returning to Winnipeg in 1921 where he lived until moving to Calgary in 2008. He was employed by Ashdown Hardware for thirty-one years prior to forming his own company Comair. Dad was an avid roller skater and square dancer until age 90 when he moved to Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Alf is survived by his son Allan and Joyce of Calgary; and daughter Janet and Rick Kelly of St. Albert, AB. He is also beloved papa to Alana (Kevin) Toffey of Victoria, BC and Jamie (Heather) of Calgary; great-grandpa to Megan and Ashlynn Lye and Kayla and Jayden Toffey; and step-grandpa to Laura Kelly. He was predeceased in 1991 by Gertie, his wife of nearly fifty years, three sisters, and a brother.
A Celebration of Alf’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be held at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB at a later date.
