Obituary of STEVENS – Charley
September 2, 1921 – July 28, 2009
Charley Stevens, beloved husband of Helen of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the age of 87 years.
Charley (C.H.) Stevens was born in Winnipeg on September 2, 1921. As a young man he moved with his parents and sister Gwen to Regina. He served his country through WWII as a radar technician in the RCAF, stationed in Newfoundland. He married Helen Koepke on September 7, 1946, graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1948 and became a Chartered Accountant in 1950.
Charley moved to Calgary in the early 1950’s with his wife and young son to pursue a career in the emerging oil and gas industry, joining Canadian Pacific Oil & Gas in 1958. He retired from Pan Canadian Petroleum Ltd. in September of 1986 as Senior Vice President of Finance. As an active member of the Salvation Army in Regina, Saskatoon, and Calgary, Charley’s greatest privilege was to serve on the Board of the Calgary Grace Hospital.
Predeceased by his parents, Albert and Florence Stevens of Vancouver, he is survived by Helen, his loving wife of sixty-two years; his sister and brother-in-law Gwen and Nelson Weir of Langley, BC; his son and daughter-in-law Brian and Diana Stevens of DeWinton, AB; his daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Glen Jolliffe of Kaleden, BC; as well as six grandchildren, Andrew, Julie (Jake), Karen (Dan), Andrea (Hector), Steven (Lori), and Cathy (Matt); and six great-grandchildren.
Charley lived a full and rewarding life and was ready for his Master’s call on July 28, 2009.
A Celebration of Charley’s Life will be held at the Salvation Army Glenmore Temple (921 – 68 Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday August 4, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
