Obituary of TROUGHTON -Betty Marie
TROUGHTON – Betty Marie (nee Granquist)
February 6, 1931 – July 27, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Marie Troughton, beloved wife of the Honourable Judge William Troughton of Calgary on July 27, 2009 at Foothills Hospital.
Betty was born on the family farm near Willowbrook, SK. Betty had great compassion for others and was a Registered Nurse by profession. She practiced nursing in Virden, MB, Broadview SK. and worked for many years at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, retiring as head nurse of her department. Upon moving to Calgary, she worked at Foothills Hospital and, the Baker Center. Betty was a kind and gracious lady who was loved and admired by all who knew her. Her family was what she cherished most. She was the most wonderful mother to her son Kim and like a mother to her grandson Collin. They could not have been more loved. She eagerly looked forward to the annual family reunions to visit with her sisters and brothers and her large extended family, all of whom will miss her deeply.
She is survived by her husband Judge William Troughton; her son Kim Megaffin; grandson Collin Megaffin; sisters, Jean (Vern) Thompson, Ruby (Mel) Dixon, Bea Fredrickson, Lois (Dave) Watson; brothers Robert (Joan) Granquist, Jack(Eleanor) Granquist, Jim Granquist, and Garrett (Carol ) Granquist; her brother- in- law Michael Czuboka and family; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Jack Megaffin; her parents John and Signe Granquist; and her brother Bill.
A Memorial Service will be held at Advent Lutheran Church (11 Scenic Acres Gate N.W.) on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com .
