Obituary of William Horsburgh Girling
October 18, 1921 – July 26, 2009
Bill beloved husband of Dorothy passed away peacefully at age 87 years after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born and raised in Calgary, Bill leaves to mourn his daughter Wendy, brother Roy (Eunice), sister-in-laws Marjorie (Arthur) Robinson, Vera Girling and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Isabella and father Edgar and brother Jim Girling.
Bill spent his working years as a letter carrier and supervisor for Canada Post. He volunteered for Jr. Baseball as an umpire, as a scout leader, and as a member of St. John’s Ambulance brigade. Bill worked tirelessly as an elder and all round handy man for the congregation of St. Paul’s United Church. In retirement he and Dorothy enjoyed wonderful trips all over the world. In summer they camped in the mountains. He was recognized in April by Meals on Wheels as an outstanding volunteer having given cheerfully over 5,000 hours. Such a loving, caring husband, father and best friend will be sorely missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lakeview United Church (3023 – 63 Avenue S.W.) on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
