Obituary of Annie Ballyk
March 12, 1909 – July 24, 2009
Annie Ballyk of Calgary, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009 at the age of 100 years.
Annie was born in Vancouver and as a baby her family moved to Medicine Hat where she grew up. She was the first canvasser in Alberta for Canadian Cancer Society and became campaign manager. After her husbands passing Annie moved to Calgary, to start a new career with the credit Bureau of Calgary till her retirement at the age of 69 years. Annie was a member Calgary Credit Granters Club and Credit Women’s Club. She was called their “Call Girl” because she did all the phoning. For over 30 years Annie was coordinator and commentator for Fashions of Yesteryear (now called Memory Lane Fashions) till the age of 92. Annie celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on March 12, 2009.
Annie is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law Eileen and Bill Homenuk and Joyce and Val Folk; son Dr. Donald Ballyk M.D.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchilden. Annie was predeceased by her husband Dave.
A Celebration of Annie’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
