Obituary of Alene Audry Brinsmead

After a lifetime dominated by Multiple Sclerosis, Alene passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Peter Lougheed Centre at the age of 79 years. Surviving are her husband Ralph Brinsmead; daughter Barbara; sister Shirley (Don) Emmett of Castor; as well as nephews in Castor, Calgary, Ottawa and High River. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Myrtle Hunt of Castor Alene was born in Alix, AB and spent her childhood on the family farm near Dried Meat Lake. She earned her diploma in Education at the University of Alberta and taught at schools in East Central Alberta, while upgrading her education. She moved to Camrose where her future husband was a newspaper reporter. They married in 1960 and moved to Winnipeg for seven years. Then they returned to Alberta, settling in Calgary where they lived for forty two years. Throughout her life she was loved by children and adults alike. Her sweet disposition and intelligence made her a favourite of many. She helped start Kirkfield Park United Church in Winnipeg and joined other congregations in Calgary. Alene was an enthusiastic curler and square dancer until her illness forced her to quit.
