Obituary of Horace Dale Payne

Horace Dale Payne, beloved husband of Gladys Arlene Payne, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009 in Calgary Alberta. Dale was born on August 18, 1934 in Cardston, AB. He was a devoted, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was active in the Scouting Program, served in several Bishoprics, and as a Bishop twice. He served in the Calgary North Stake Presidency and as an Area Welfare Director. Dale’s company, Dale Payne and Associates did seismic work in the Arctic – 600 miles across the frozen Arctic – ending at Malic Dome which is 1,000 miles north of Point Barrow, Alaska. Dale loved fishing, camping, hunting and anything to do with outdoors. He was an active cattle rancher and loved horses and dogs. He was involved in the City Wide Food Drive both in Calgary and in Cochrane and was also involved in the City Christmas Dinner for the last several years. Dale is survived by his wife, Gladys Payne, his siblings LeRay Payne (Lorna) of Glenwood, LaDeane Stoner (Roy) of Kaysville, Utah, Shirley Williams (Kay) of Kaysville, Utah, his sister-in-law Mary Payne (Gordon) of Ogden, Utah. Dale and Luella raised 7 children, Debra Rausch (Darcy) of Airdrie, Delores Forsyth (Merlin) of Spokane, Washington, Kenneth Payne (Kathy) of Balzac, Curtis Payne (Pamela) of Calgary, Larry Payne (Cathie) of Pleasanton, California, Allan Payne (Michelle) of Calgary, and Bryan Payne (Kim) of Pleasanton, California. Dale was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kathleen Payne, his brother Gordon, in-laws, Kay Williams and Marion Payne, and his parents, Horace and Mabel Payne of Cardston, Alberta. In 1991 Dale married Gladys Payne. Gladys’grown children are Garret Swihart (Marianne) of Calgary and Gayla DeHart (John) of Vancouver, B.C. Dale has many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints Calgary Alberta West Stake (6560 Silver Springs Cr.
