Obituary of Stanley Charles Goldsmith

Stanley peacefully went to sleep on Thursday June 25th, 2009. He was born on June 21st 1924, in the district of Lambeth, London England. He attended Archbishop Temple School in London, and was evacuated to Shaftsbury England as a school boy, aged 15, during World War II. He was awarded a scholarship to the London College of Art but was unable to accept as he was required to go to work. In 1943 he joined the Royal Air Force and trained as Air Crew and a Radar Operator. In January 1945, he married his darling wife Dora and together they began a wonderful life. He was always interested in theatre, music whether it was classical or jazz, literature, writing and art. He always continued to challenge and expand his broad knowledge, a great historian. Active participant and player of many sports, from soccer, cricket, handball to tennis and was always interested in good sportsmanship. A true gentleman and a wonderful loving father. Stan and his family immigrated to Canada in 1956 and settled in Toronto. He joined Philips Electronics in 1956, and retired from the company in 1987. A life time honorary member of the Leaside Tennis Club, Toronto, and a member of the Toronto Watercolour Society. In 1990 he moved to Calgary to remain an active part of his daughter Ann and grandson Michael’s lives. With this move he continued his love of the great outdoors and captured its beauty and colour in his watercolour paintings, – the landscapes live on. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Dora, daughter Ann, son-in-law Keith Jewitt and grandson Michael, along with his nieces and nephews and by his sister-in-laws Jean and Nancy and by many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Church of The Good Shepherd (408 – 38 Street S.W.) on Saturday July 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
