Obituary of Lawrence George Lindland
Lawrence George Lindland, beloved husband of Muriel of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the age of 93 years.
Born September 15, 1915 in Jenner, AB, George was the eldest child and only son of Jakob Tobiasen Lindland and Ellen Tomina Vika originally of Haugesund, Norway. George was brother to Gudrun Merkel of Seattle, WA, Esther Weiseth of Swift Current, SK, and Ruth Svenson of Ponoka, AB (deceased).
He left the family farm in Jenner at 17 years of age to work on a farm in Tilley for five years. At 22, George returned to Jenner to assist his family with moving to a new farm in Ponoka, AB. He remained on the farm until he enlisted in the army at 27 years of age. George was a proud veteran of World War II, serving three years with the South Edmonton Regiment Tank Corps. He met and later married Muriel Fitzpatrick in London, England. Thereafter, he was stationed in Holland and Germany. George was honoured to march in the Victory Day parade in Berlin. After returning from the war, George worked for Veteran’s Affairs, helping to settle veterans in the Eastern Irrigation District of Alberta.
In 1950, George moved his young family to Calgary. He then worked as a day trader with James-Richardson & Sons and spent the next several decades raising his family.
Besides his loving wife of sixty-four years, Muriel originally of Dublin, Ireland, George will also be mourned by his sons, Larry, John and Kevin; daughter Pauline; son-in-law Ben; daughters-in-law, LaDonne, Kim and Lisa; grandchildren, Warren (Cathy), Angela, Shauna (Bruce), and Jerad; and great grandchildren, Ella, Maya, Shaelyn, Seth, Finn, and Mara. Also by his surviving sisters Gudrun and Esther and his surviving brother-in-law, Sven Svenson and their children and grand children.
