Obituary of Franz Guntner
Frank Guntner, beloved husband of Ursula Guntner of Calgary, passed away on June 22, 2009 at the age of 77 years.
Franz (Frank) Guntner was born on October 12, 1931 in Poland. He immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1950. In the early years he lived and worked with his cousins in Saskatchewan. Then he worked as a hard rock and metal miner in British Columbia and Ontario. In 1955 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and made it his career for twenty-two years. He served with the 2nd Battalion of the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, the Royal Canadian Regiment and the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. During that time he also did a tour with the United Nations in Cyprus and two tours with NATO in Germany. He married Ursula in 1959 and they have lived in Calgary since 1961 raising their two daughters. In 1982 he started and his own locksmith business (Frank’s Mobile Lock and Key Service) out of Okotoks. He retired in 1995. Frank’s life was his work, dedicating everything he had to support his family. He was a member of the Q.O.R. Association and of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #285 for many years.
Besides his loving wife Ursula, Frank is survived his daughters, Caroline S. Quilloy of Irricana and Virginia A. Charest of Calgary; three grandchildren, David, Phillip and Tamara; and three great-grandchildren, David, Darian and Shaelyn. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Georg and Stasi, Johann and Margarete; sister Anna Vogel; and numerous nieces and nephews, all living in Germany. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, and two brothers-in-law.
