Obituary of Margaret Rose Berreth

Margaret Rose Berreth, beloved wife of Allan of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Born in Didsbury, AB and graduated from Didsbury High School, Margaret moved to Toronto to study singing for a year before returning to Calgary where she joined a Quartet and sang throughout Southern Alberta. On December 31, 1947, she married Allan Berreth and they resided in Beiseker before semi-retiring to Calgary in 2004. Margaret was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed many winters sharing Star Aloha with her “Hawaiian Family.” She was Worthy Grand Matron of the province of Alberta in 1982-1983. In 1988-1991 she was appointed General Grand Chapter Committee Member (ESTARL) of the General Grand Chapter and was honoured to be appointed Worthy Grand Organist of the General Grand Chapter from 1997 to 2000. While enjoying these appointments Margaret and her husband Al travelled extensively around the world spreading Star Love. Margaret’s dedication earned her the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Elizabeth’s reign as Queen of Canada. She also enjoyed her membership in the Daughters of the Nile. Besides her loving husband Allan, Margaret is survived by daughters, Adele and her husband Gene Belyk of Shell Lake, SK, and Linda Berreth of Calgary; two grandsons, Cory Belyk, of Saskatoon SK and Trevor and Wendy Belyk of Osler SK; two great granddaughters Emma and Gracie Belyk; brother-in-law Mel Pearson and his wife Julie of White Rock, BC; two nieces and their husbands, Debbie and Tom Oke of Calgary and Denise and Doug Cottrell of Airdrie.
