Obituary of Calvin Douglas Hope

Calvin Douglas Hope of Calgary, beloved son, brother, uncle and brother in-law passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the age of 53 years. Cal was born February 25, 1956 in Banff, Alberta and worked in the Banff area before moving to Calgary. Throughout his life, Cal was a voracious reader, with a particular love for science fiction novels. He was well read and outspoken on a variety of subjects. He was also an ardent golfer and skier, activities he greatly enjoyed sharing with family members. He was passionate about travel and hoped to visit Nova Scotia to attend his niece Katie’s graduation in the fall. Cal owned his own business for a number of years, as a drywall installer and taper, working on a large number of projects in and around the City of Calgary. Cal’s family was very important to him. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews when they were growing up, taking them on road trips and for family vacations. He was very close to his grandparents and other family members. Cal’s courage and compassion for others in the face of his illness was remarkable. His optimism and independence of spirit never faded. He will be missed by his family and friends. Cal is survived by his mother Joyce; brother Bill (Susan); sisters, Terry (Steve) and Trish (Paul); nieces Katie (Ben), Cara, Caleigh, and Tarilyn; and nephews, Stephen and Timothy. He was predeceased by his father Bill Sr. and his by his grandparents. A celebration of Cal’s life will be held at the Scenic Acres Community Hall (8825 Scurfield Dr. N.W.
