Obituary of Grey Japheth Kampala

Grey Kampala, beloved husband of Mieke of High River, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the age of 62 years. Grey arrived in Canada in 1968; graduated from U.B.C. in 1972 with a B.Sc. in Geology; obtained an M.Sc. in Hydrogeology from Birmingham University, England, in 1977. After working at Key Lake, Saskatchewan, for 2 1/2 years, Grey moved his family to Fort McMurray, Alberta, where he began his 25-year career with Syncrude Canada Ltd. He retired in 2006 and moved south to Okotoks and recently to High River. Grey is well known for his involvement in the community. He was an avid soccer coach, player, referee and fan. He loved The Beautiful Game. He also greatly enjoyed the outdoors including camping, hiking and gardening. Grey was a soft-spoken and humble man who was devoted to his family and friends. Besides his loving wife of 37 years, Grey is survived by his daughter Tikonde Bielecki (Terry), sons Jason (Karyn), Thomas (Yanin) and Benjamin (Katie), and five grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters and many nieces and nephews. Grey was predeceased by an older brother and his parents Japheth and Manesi Kampala. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
