Obituary of Margaret Helen Manolescu

Margaret Manolescu, beloved wife of George Manolescu of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Besides George, her loving husband of sixty-six years, Margaret is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, The Honourable Mdm. Justice Suzanne and Dr. Ernest Bensler and grandson Mark Bensler; son, John Manolescu and former wife Marsha Manolescu and their children Christopher Manolescu, Trisha and her husband Michael James and their children Emmett and Brenna, Julie Manolescu, Stacey Manolescu and John’s wife MaryAnne. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Megan Bensler in 2004; and her three brothers Norman, Frank and Harry Nelson. Margaret was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Emory and Edna Nelson. She first met George when he was serving Convoy Duty in the Royal Canadian Navy in the North Atlantic in World War II. At that time she was the Office Manager for the Netherland Shipping Company. They were married in 1944. After the War they made Calgary their home where they raised their two children. Margaret was a great partner and support, and George considered her an integral part of the many successes in his business career. They enjoyed many international trips together, both for business and pleasure. She was his constant friend and companion through life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
