Obituary of Sherman Albert Yelland

After a long and happy life, Sherman died at age 91 surrounded by family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-five years, Jean; his four children, Lois (Archie), Pegg (Neil), Lorne, and Norma (Hugh); eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sherman was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Yelland and Flora Pinder and is survived by his sister Mary Powell and numerous nieces and nephews. Sherm grew up in Cadimon and graduated from Olds College and U of A with a degree in Agriculture. During his long career in the Federal and Provincial Departments of Agriculture, he worked closely with the farmers of Alberta to promote crop improvement and the early development of the Canola industry. Sherm passed on his love of gardening to his children and his skill at playing crib right down to his youngest grandchild. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and will be fondly remembered for his wit, humour and harmonica playing. A Celebration of Sherm’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 10:30 a.m. in the Atrium at Bethany Care Centre, 916-18A. St. N.W. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
