Obituary of Janet Webber Warren

Janet Webber Warren passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the age of 95 years. Janet was born in Innisfail, AB. Upon graduation from high school, she pursued her career in music. She received certificates from the University of Toronto, Royal Conservatory of Music, as a piano soloist in 1932 and then as a vocalist in 1935. In 1936 Janet married Robert Warren, who was at the time a high school teacher in Innisfail. When her husband’s career progressed, they moved to Lacombe where their son, Bill, was born and then to Oyen, Killam and back to Innisfail before settling in Calgary in 1947. Janet played a vital role in each community they lived in as a soloist, choir leader, music teacher and organist, enriching the lives of all that were privileged to enjoy her talents. When Bob retired in 1992 as Chief Superintendent of the Calgary Public School Board, they travelled extensively and Janet continued to participate in church choir work at Wild Rose United Church. The last eleven years of Janet’s life, after Bob’s passing in 1998, were spent with her family and a wide circle of close friends that she had made over the years. She would often say that she had “a wonderful life, well lived”. Janet is survived by her son Bill and daughter-in-law Peggy; three outstanding grandchildren, Robert, Peter and Jonathan and their wives Michelle, Jessica and Rhonda respectively and five great-grandchildren, David, Jack, Tegan, Ashton and Caleb. She will be missed by her family, friends and the residents and staff at The Manor at Huntington Hills. A Celebration of Janet’s life will be at Wild Rose United Church (1317 1 Street NW) on Monday, June 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
