Obituary
Obituary of Margaret Ruth Bowers
Much loved wife of Brian and loving mother of Christopher, Moira and Roger, Ruth passed away peacefully with her family after a short battle with cancer. She leaves behind her sister Mimi Goad, and five grandchildren; Geneviève and Christopher Brian Bowers; and Philip, Nevin and Maureen Cimolai. Ruth was born in Nuneaton, England to Thomas Brewster (Priest) and Vera Elliott Purves and later immigrated to Canada in the 50’s where she met Brian in Calgary while training at Holy Cross Hospital. They soon married in 1958 and remained devoted to each other for 49 years before Brian passed away August 22, 2008. Although both will be missed by those who knew them, they have now been reunited in a very special place. Ruth was a kind, warm and understanding person who brought much joy and love into our lives whether it was on a camping trip, at church, at home, vacationing with her children, or celebrating those special days during the year with family. She had an engaging personality and intelligence that made her a thoughtful, witty and interesting person. She was always passionate about the things in which she believed. After her stroke in 1996, she showed remarkable strength, determination, and above all else, unending faith. Ruth was a devoted Christian and Anglican who gave of herself in many ways. While a member of the Church of St. Barnabas, Apostle and Martyr, Ottawa, until 1991, she served as Warden on Parish Council. Since then, as a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Inglewood, Calgary, she served faithfully as Envelope Secretary and member of the Altar Guild. The Family would like to thank the very caring staff of the Carewest Sarcee Hospice, and Homecare for making our Mother so comfortable in her final weeks and days. Enough can’t be said for their dedication, patience, and truly loving care of not only our Mother, but also her family.
