Obituary of John Mortimer Stephens

John Stephens, beloved husband for forty-two years of Wendy Stephens, walked into heaven on Saturday, May 2, 2009, surrounded by his family at the Rockyview General Hospital. John will be a treasured memory to his children, Nicole (Glenn) Baxter and John “Jay” Stephens Jr.; six grandchildren “who lit up his life”; his sister, Anne (Jerry) Kalych; brothers-in-law Kent (Donna) and Bob (Jane) Hillard; sisters-in-law Rene and Barb Stephens; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Gordon M. and Helen Stephens; and brother Jim Stephens. John was born in St. Boniface and grew up in Winnipeg, MB where he graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Calgary Power (TransAlta Corporation) in August, 1960 and retired as Manager of Distribution in 1993. John generously gave of his time sitting on Boards of various organizations and volunteering his time in the Community. His greatest love was supporting his children in their many sports and life activities.
