Obituary of Winnifred Mary Unger

Winnifred (Win) Mary Unger of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Foothill Medical Centre at the age of 92 years. Win was born in the town of Grande Prairie, AB to British Pioneer Settlers on May 18, 1916. Win and Jack settled in Calgary, where Win looked after her daughter alone while Jack went to war. She bravely endured those years apart, with son Donald arriving after Jack’s return. Win worked at the Woodwards Department Store, formerly located within Chinook Centre. She will be remembered for her work volunteering with Jack, for the City of Calgary, Kirby Centre and Legion Branch 285. She was known for her crafts, specializing in paintings of Chief Dan George, for which she won awards. Win always had an open door for family, friends, and all pets. She never turned anyone or anything away. Win, is survived by daughter Patricia (Patsy) and (Paul) Garand, son Donald and Barbara Unger; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Sadly, Win did not live to see the upcoming birth of a great-great-grandchild just announced. She was predeceased by husband, Jack Unger Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
