Obituary of Holly Ruth Rice

Holly “Ruth” Rice beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the age of 77 years. Ruth was born on December 12, 1931, the second of six children to Glen and Holly Fisher in Hillspring, Alberta. She spent her childhood in Hillspring, and when she was a teenager, her family moved to Edmonton, Alberta. After completing high school, she received a teaching certificate and taught Elementary School for several years. Ruth married her sweetheart Leonard D. Rice in 1953. Together they raised four daughters and one son. Ruth was supportive of her husband in his career as they moved many times to locations throughout Alberta and the United States. After more than twenty years in the United States, much to the delight of Ruth, they returned home to Canada in 1996. Ruth had many adventures and saw many parts of the world, but there was no place more dear to her heart than Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta. Ruth’s greatest joy was her family, and her fondest memories were of summers spent together at their cabin in Waterton. Ruth loved reading books, writing poetry, watching classic movies, and going to the theatre. She had a beautiful singing voice. She was an example of unwavering faith and she served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ruth is survived by her husband Leonard; daughters Cindy Beattie (Shelby), Suzanne Ledbetter, Bobbi Jane (Chris), and Julie Stoker (Ken); son Michael Rice (Shauna); nineteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings, Connie Steed, Barbara Tanner, Gary Fisher (Carole) and Dianne DeMik (Greg). Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Foothills Stake Centre (30 Everstone Blvd. SW, Calgary, Alberta). A viewing will precede the service from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. for those wishing to attend. Graveside Service will be held at the Hillspring Cemetery.
