Obituary of Charles Miller
Charles (Henry) recently of Calgary, passed away peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the age of 90 years.
Charles was born on July 11, 1918 in Bridgeburg, Ontario. He married his beloved wife Joyce (McCallum) of sixty-seven years in St. Catharines, Ontario in 1941. Following four and a half years overseas, he was employed by Standard Brands until he retired as General Manager of the Atlantic Region. His occupation took him and his family to the Maritimes and finally to Bedford Nova Scotia. Charles loved to meet people, developed wonderful relationships everywhere he went and was always there to lend a helping hand. Charles was an active member of the Bedford community as President of the Bedford Lions Club, member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Bedford Legion. He also enjoyed his years as a volunteer with CNIB in Halifax. One of his proudest moments was the opening of the Bedford Lawn Bowls Club which he and his wife Joyce co-founded and supported for many years. In 2007 they moved to western Canada to make Calgary their new home where he joined the Calgary Millennium Branch of the Legion. Once again, many new friends were made quickly.
Charles is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife Joyce; his three daughters, Judith Ann (Martin) Scott of St. Catharines, Ontario, Linda (Shane) Arsenault of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Gail (Donald) Millett of Calgary, Alberta; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister Mary (Owen) Lemyre of Toronto, Ontario; as well as nephews and nieces.
