Obituary of Eric Wennerstrom
Eric Wennerstrom, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2009 after a brief illness; just short of his 93rd birthday.
Eric grew up in Elnora and Alder Flats on the old homestead with his large family. He proudly served in WWII in the signal corp. After returning home from overseas, he was a lumberjack, a farmer and later an oilman, eventually moving his family to Calgary in the seventies. He retired in 1981 and was able to enjoy many years of travel. He especially loved his trips to Kelowna, Vancouver and Vancouver Island. He never lost his love of the country life and often returned for reunions with family and old friends. He enjoyed Sunday drives in the country and his daily walks along the green strip near his home. One of his most cherished memories was of travelling to Sweden to meet extended family and visit his ancestral home where he felt such a deep connection to the land and people.
He will be so dearly missed by many friends, neighbours and acquaintances but we feel truly blessed to have had him for so long. His love was an inspiration to us all.
He is survived by his wife of almost fifty-five years, Mary; his daughters Susan and Debbie (Warren); sons David (Marie) and John; he will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Adam and Aaron, Lisa and Kirsten, Fern, Charlie and Muriel (Jody). He will also be fondly remembered by his siblings, Helen, Doris, Irene and Richard; brothers in law, Ted, Stan (Fran), Joe (Lorraine) Deynaka; and many nieces and nephews. Eric was predeceased his parents Olga and Philip; brothers and sisters, Eva, Marie, Bob, Arnold, Margaret and Carol.
