Obituary of Donald Avis

We announce with great sadness the passing of Donald Avis on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, following a brave battle with a brain tumour. He remained optimistic and was determined to be “cancer free”. Donald worked at Ocelot Energy for fourteen years and was a dedicated and reliable, proud employee who was always ready to help out. When the company relocated, Don maintained many friendships with his co-workers. He was an enthusiastic volunteer , donating his time at every opportunity. In recognition of his extensive volunteer work within the community, CTV Calgary honoured him by naming him “Volunteer of the Week” in 2007. Although Donald faced challenges, he led a full active life and pursued all activities with determination and perseverance. Donald will be sadly missed by his favourite cousins, Vicky Dodds and family, Walter Avis and family, and numerous other cousins. Also left to mourn is his close friend and guardian Helga Tamagi and family; Marie Moore and family, and countless friends whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Frances Avis. Funeral Services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15th Avenue S.W.) on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Union Cemetery . Special thanks to Maline Jenkinson and her team at Resicare Society of Calgary where Donald resided for thirty-nine years, and for all the support extended to him in all his endeavours.
