Obituary of Betty Ann Wilson

WILSON – Bette Ann April 13, 1922 – April 4, 2009 Bette Ann Wilson died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary following surgery. She was the loving daughter of Marion and Benjamin Wilson. Bette was born in Southport, England on April 13, 1922, while her parents were there on a family visit. Her early childhood was on the family farm at Rowley, AB. In 1926 the family moved to the North Hill in Calgary. Bette was employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia for forty-one years, gradually advancing through the ranks until she was appointed the first female manager of a Scotiabank in the Prairie Provinces and having missed only two and a half days of work due to illness. Bette had a very sympathetic heart and was a devoted worker in support of many programs for the less fortunate people in Calgary. She provided personal financial support to almost everyone who requested it. She volunteered for many years with the Interfaith Food Bank as well as The Back Door. Bette was Past President and Life Member of the Calgary International Soroptimists. She was a friend to many and over the last seven years of ill health she remained a warm and loving person. Bette was the beloved sister of Greta Norman of Oslo, Norway, Donald Wilson of Lethbridge and Helen Hvozdanski of Victoria, BC. She leaves her nieces, Sharon Brocklesby of Creston, BC, Marion Sollazzo and Sharon Hvozdanski of Victoria, BC, and Carol Fata and Debbie Rye of Edmonton, AB; and nephews, Douglas Wilson of Victoria, BC, David Wilson of Calgary, AB, John Wilson of Southlake, TX, Roy, Bruce, Glen and Terry Getschel of Edmonton, AB; as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Styra and Lois Deardon. A Celebration of Bette’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
