Obituary of Elsie McDowell
Elsie McDowell, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 after a heroic battle with cancer. She fought her illness with dignity and strength, and was greatly admired for her courage throughout her illness.
Elsie was born and raised on a farm near Minitonas, MB. She travelled extensively throughout her life and lived in England and New Zealand, before finally settling in Calgary in 1967. Elsie was a very independent and talented person, who taught herself many projects including home improvement, all manner of handiwork, crafts. She was an excellent seamstress, gardener, cook and an avid reader. Elsie enjoyed golf and Tai Chi and was generous with her family, friends and charities, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Elsie leaves to mourn her three children, Robert, David, Jennifer Avery (Ashley); three grandchildren, Aaron, Alexander, and Faith Avery; her former husband and friend Ron; her friend and companion of many years Jose Roa; her twin sister Marie McAulay, sister Lydia Wozniuk; brother Mark Wozniuk (Candace); as well as many nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her parents Bill and Irene Wozniuk and brother Leonard.
