Obituary of Kenneth William Bateman

Kenneth (Ken) William Bateman was born November 30, 1922 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He concluded his life’s journey peacefully, Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Mount Royal Care Center, Calgary, Alberta. Ken enlisted in the Canadian Forces RCEME in 1941, where he served Canada from 1941 to 1946 in Belgium, France, Holland, and Germany. In Regina, on October 18, 1946, he wed the love of his life, Lyla Gibson, with their union being blessed with two sons, Wayne and Kevin. His precious grandson Travis Bateman, his sister-in-law Francis Bateman, and his brother-in-law George Muggaberg predeceased him. Ken was held in high regard for his acts of kindness toward his fellow man, friends, family, and his dedication to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 264. In addition to being a loving husband and devoted brother, Ken was a loving father and grandfather, whose spirit of strength and support will be missed by his wife, sons, extended family and friends. Ken is survived by his beloved wife Lyla; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin, and Wayne and Lynette; his three precious grandchildren, Ryder, Haley and Casey Bateman; his sister Evelyn Muggaberg; his two brothers, Jack Bateman and family; Wallace Bateman and family; his brother-in-law Robert Gibson and family; and his niece Beverly and her husband Jim and their daughter Kayla White. A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 264 (1910 Kensington Road N.W.) on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Family Graveside Service will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
