Obituary of Dorothy Elsie Bunko

Dorothy (Dot) Elsie Bunko beloved wife of William Bunko of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the age of 90 years. Dorothy was born in Moncton, NB and graduated from Moncton High School, before attending Robinson Business College, also in Moncton. She worked in Montreal for a couple of years where she met William Bunko and married him in 1944. They had three wonderful children. Dorothy worked as a secretary for the public as well as separate school board for a number of years. She also did a lot of canvassing for the Red Cross, Cancer Society, Salvation Army, and other charities. Dorothy was a volunteer at Triwood Community and a leader for Girl Guides in Vancouver before coming to Calgary in 1960, where she has resided since. She also worked with numerous church groups. Dorothy was very active in bowling circles and she also loved golf, cross-country skiing, crafts, square dancing, and shuffleboard. She was a snow bird in Arizona for twelve years and enjoyed life to the fullest. Besides her loving husband of sixty-four years, Dorothy is also survived by her three children, Gail Hamilton of Calgary, Lorrie Bunko (Greig Goldstone) of Penticton, BC, and Tom Bunko (Sonia O’Brien) of Perth, Australia; as well as five grandsons, Sean, Mike, Chris, Riley, and Sam and a granddaughter Hannah. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue N.W.) on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
