Obituary of Eberhard Kauffmann

Eberhard (Ebe) Kauffmann beloved husband of Donna of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the age of 82 years after a long struggle with Multiple System Atrophy. Ebe was born in Stuttgart, Germany on May 12, 1926 to August and Hedwig Kauffmann and grew up in Fellbach-Schmiden. After studying architecture, Ebe came to Canada in September, 1952 along with his dear friends Leo Ehling and Eric Steisslinger. After a year in Montreal they moved across Canada to Calgary. Ebe and his friends were avid skiers and hikers and could be found somewhere in the Rockies most weekends. It was on his way to ski Mount Norquay that he met a young lady named Donna who had just stepped off the ski train and soon stepped into Ebe’s heart. Ebe and Donna were married on December 23, 1955 and enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. Ebe was best known for his career in the home building industry in the Calgary area, first as owner of Kauffmann Construction then as the construction Manager for Atco Industries home division (Cedarglen Homes) in the 60’s and 70’s. He went on to be the Manager of several other building companies until his retirement in 1987. In his retirement he left Calgary to be at his “Ponderosa” out in Sundre, where he spent his time working around the property and helping friends and neighbours. Ebe was very proud of his family: Peter (Teanna) Kauffmann, Barbara (Jeff) Wood, Lisa Kauffmann and Eric (Caroline) Kauffmann and seven lucky grandchildren-Thomas, Catherine and Ashley Wood, Caetano and Cristiano de Carvalho, Christopher and Jamie Kauffmann who were all privileged to have him as their Opa. They will all treasure the times spent at Sundre and Crimson Lake. Ebe will also be remembered by his brothers Volker Siegfried (Rose) and Lothar, sister in law Karen of Germany, as well as in-laws John and Elaine Wilson and Lois Bell of B.C. He also leaves behind many relatives and his extended family of dear friends in both Germany and Canada. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Roland.
