Obituary of Daniel Joseph Dan Kirby
Daniel (Dan) Kirby of Siksika Nation passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Strathmore Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife Muriel Kirby; four children, Eric (Stacey), Erica (Karl), Roy (Gaylene) & Peter; Special granddaughter Aleisha (Rufus Jr) that he raised like his own; and also an adopted son Desmond "Desi" Two Horns (Nina). Dan is also survived by his loving mother, Jacqueline Kirby and brother Joseph "Joe" Kirby; grandchildren Kyle, Delaney, Katrina, Thomas, Tye, Sierra, Dorian, Richard, Adri & Strawberry; one great grandchild Jarred "Subway"; two special Aunts, Norma Canoe & Kateri Deer; adopted brothers & sisters Walter (Connie) Poor Eagle, Betty (William) Mills, Joan (Lawrence) Panther Bone, Doug (Beverly) Poor Eagle, Clement (Flora) Poor Eagle, and Amos (Rosemary) Poor Eagle. Dan was predecesed by his father, Frank; brothers Bob & Francis; sister Jacqueline; grandson Karl Jr. Doore; and adopted parents Joe & Beatrice Poor Eagle.
Dan was born in Toronto, Ontario and was from Kahnawake (Mohawk). He was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and later was Chief of Police for Siksika Nation & Samson Band (Hobbema). He enjoyed participating and watching Rodeo events.
Relatives and friends are invited to Wake Services at Muriel Kirby’s residence (Siksika Nation, AB) on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Cluny, AB) on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Services to follow at Canon Stockton Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB).
