Obituary of Himanshu Maher
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Himanshu Maher of Calgary Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the age of 40 years.
Hima – or Hammy as he was known to many – married his loving wife, Kavita, in Canmore in 1995. Together, they have two daughters Tarika and Tuhina, who he loved more than anything. Hima was born in Kenya. He moved to Canmore in 1979 with his parents, Rambha and Jivan and his older sister, Deviani. Hima graduated from the Canmore Composite High School in 1986. He trained as a heavy-duty mechanic, working for Brewsters in Banff and John Deere in Saskatchewan before opening his own shop in Calgary in February 1998. Hima founded Maher Racing Inc. in 1999, and after years of racing motorcycles, he switched to the GT Class of cars. In 2000, he won the Canadian GT Championship in Calgary. Hima will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
