Obituary of Gordon Gunning

Gordon Gunning, beloved husband of Carolyn Scott of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the age of 59 years. Gordon was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Toronto, ON in 1951. He moved with his young family to Calgary in 1976. He was an original season ticket owner of the Calgary Flames, was a devoted volunteer to Calgary minor hockey as both a coach and an official, and most recently actively involved with senior men’s hockey as a referee. Gordon was most proud of his role as an official chaperone for Heidi and Howdy before and during the 1988 Olympics. He enjoyed travelling with his family and was always planning his next adventure the moment they arrived home. Besides his loving wife of seventeen years, Gordon is survived by two daughters, Aynslee Gunning-Kosowan and her husband Tavis and Randee Manske; a son Kyle and his wife Maureen Gunning; and two grandsons, Carter and Brendan Gunning. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Graham and Cathy Gunning; a nephew Spencer and niece Carleigh; and his cousin Marion and her husband Wayne Miller and their children, Marleen and Andrew. He was predeceased by Kyle and Aynslee’s mother Sharon Gunning in 1991.
