Obituary of Gwenllian Decil LeGrow

Gwenllian (Gwen) Decil LeGrow of Calgary passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Gwen was born in South Wales on December 10, 1912. She served as a radio operator during World War II. After the war, she became a nurse in London England. Gwen loved adventure and in 1949 went to Newfoundland to serve as a nurse in the outports. It was there she met and married the love of her life Reg to whom she was married for fifty-three wonderful years before his passing in 2005. Gwen lived in Newfoundland until 2002, when she and Reg moved to Alberta to be closer to family. Gwen made friends wherever she went and has many wonderful friends in Newfoundland, across Canada and in Britain. Gwen is survived by her son John; daughter-in-law, Anna and her family; grandsons, Christopher and Shane; brother, Alun in England; sister-in-law, Betty in Ontario and nieces and nephews in Britain and Ontario. A Celebration of Gwen’s Life will be held at St. Thomas United Church (100 Hawkwood Boulevard N.W.) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
