Obituary of Frances Averil Landry

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Frances Averil Landry (nee Tower)on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Frances was born and raised by her mother, Edva and father, Beverley Tower on a farm on Slack’s Cove near Sackville, New Brunswick. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Her years on the farm were marked by no running water and no electricity and her children were blessed to have shared that experience on many occasions. Her first job was as a beautician in Sackville, New Brunswick and how she loved telling stories about what went on there. That is, until the day that she met Leo, the love of her life and before long was whisked off to live in Montreal. Frances, Leo and young Peter moved to California in 1968, where she won her battle with breast cancer. She returned to Montreal eighteen years later, where Leo passed away in 1988. In 1994, she moved to Calgary where she lived until her passing with her children and their families nearby. Frances loved to sing and play the organ, and she also enjoyed gardening, knitting and sewing and was an excellent seamstress. In spite of some minor health and memory challenges in her last years, her great sense of humour shone through. She will be missed for her hugs, kind words and self effacing humour. She will be missed, but never forgotten. Frances is survived by her sons, Richard (Alana) and Peter; her daughter Elizabeth (Don) Dobby; her grandchildren Ryan, Melissa, Melody, Amanda, Victoria; and great-grandson William. Frances was predeceased by her husband of forty years, Jacques Leon Landry, in 1988.
