Obituary of Rose Benedict

Rose Mary Benedict (nee Dipalo), passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the Beverly Care Centre Lake Midnapore. Rose was born at home on June 24, 1922 and raised at 229 3rd Avenue South East, Calgary, Alberta. She attended St. Mary’s Girls School, Western Canada High School and Henderson Secretarial School. She married Burdett Benedict in 1939 and joined him on the farm, west of Wimborne, Alberta where they raised their two children. Rose was the Post Mistress in Wimborne and Mynarski Park and upon retirement, returned to Calgary. Rose was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life in many clubs and organizations. She loved gardening and family gatherings. She is survived by her daughter Carol Ann Schmierer, (Jim Schmierer) and two grandchildren Douglas Schmierer (Angela Duffy), Deanne Schmierer (Dale Comessotti). Rose is also survived by her sister Evelyn Spring, brothers Victor Dipalo (Grace) and Alfred Dipalo (Trudy) and sister-in-law Laura Dipalo, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family. Rose was predeceased by her parents James and Edith Dipalo, her husband Burdett Benedict (1968), and her son Wayne Benedict (1959), her sister Irene Mikulak, and brothers John Dipalo Sr. and Raymond Dipalo. The family extends sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Beverly Care Centre for their compassion and care.
