Obituary of James Edward Crowe

With his family at his side, James (Jim) Edward Crowe husband of Eileen Crowe of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday February 13, 2009 at the age of 81 years. Jim was a native Calgarian who was raised on a rural homestead which today is Glenmore Trail and 14th Street. Jim had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing and travelling to many destinations around the world, but nothing was more valued than the time he spent with his family. He graduated from Western Canada High and began his career as a licensed mechanic. Jim was one of the founders of the Alberta Vocational Centre, providing adult education, training and upgrading programs. He also established many outreach facilities throughout the province. Through his passion, determination, and leadership, he grew the centre into what is known today as Bow Valley College. Jim retired as President of the Bow Valley College in 1984. In 2005, he was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in the education category in recognition of outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta. Jim is survived by his wife Eileen; daughter Susan (Bob) Archer; grandchildren Kevin Francis, Carrie (Nelson) Freitas, Nicholas and Melina Archer; great granddaughter Marlee Freitas and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 2:00p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
