Obituary of James Albert McDougall

Jim passed away peacefully on February 13, 2009, at the age of 89 years in Calgary, Alberta. He was the deeply devoted husband and caregiver to his wife Edna (deceased 2002). His memory will be fondly cherished by his sons David (Sherrill), and Peter (Mary); and by his beloved grand-children Paul (Shannon), Kevin (Candice), Kerri (Dave), Mark (Lindsey), Erin (Nathan); and great grandsons Noah and Parker. Jim is survived by his nephew John (Bonnie) McDougall of Brockville; sister-in-law Barbra Brown, as well as many nieces and nephews in Ontario, Alberta and England. He was predeceased by his brother Jack and sisters Louella and Dorothy. Jim was raised in Brockville, Ontario where he loved his time spent on the St. Lawrence River. He was a gifted athlete and pursued his love of rowing while at university. Jim graduated with his MD from Queen’s University in 1943. After serving in Halifax during the war, he and Edna moved to Willowdale, Ontario in 1947 where he established his family medical practice and raised his family. He was a well respected physician retiring from active practice in 1992. Jim was a founding member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and a lifetime member of the Thornhill Golf and Country Club. In 2004, Jim moved to Calgary to be near his family. The Family wishes to thank the Staff at The Lodge at Valley Ridge, Extendicare Hillcrest Care Centre and Unit 42 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their kindness, care and support. A special thank you to Dr. Doug Lampard and Dr. Louw for their kindness and professionalism. The family invites you to join them at an informal gathering honouring the life of “Dr. Jim” on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 7:30pm at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.).
