Obituary of Steve Washook
Steve Washook passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
Steve, one of eight children, was born in Selkirk, MB and lived in Winnipeg, MB until 2003 at which time he moved to Calgary. Steve served in the Navy during World War II, and then worked for CNR until his retirement. During his early fatherhood, he was very active at East Elmwood Community Center helping with hockey, soccer, bingo, and dances. Traveling was his passion, and whether driving or flying he visited Europe, Hawaii, most of the United States, and has been across Canada from coast to coast. His favourite visits were to see his daughter in Texas and his son in Calgary. Steve was always friendly, active and willing to help others. He was well known for his love of Winnipeg, MB where he spent most of his life.
Steve is survived by his daughter Kristine (Benton) Karnes of Dallas; son John of Calgary; grandchildren, Casey and Austin Karnes, and Donald and Kathleen Washook; sister Mickey Kullman of Kitchener; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his wife of forty-three years Myrtle May Rose in 1998; daughter-in-law Leslie in 2007; brothers, Bill, Michael, John and Nick; and by sisters, Anne and Mary.
