His three older siblings pre-deceased him: Dennis (d. 1984), John (d. 1990), and Elizabeth Allam (d. 2009). Nigel grew up in England and served as a rear gunner in the Fleet Air Arm during WWII, meeting his beloved first wife Edith McLean (d. 1981) while on shore leave in Sydney, Australia. He graduated from the Camborne School of Mines (Cornwall) and worked in W. Africa before immigrating to Canada in 1953 where he signed on for an engineering career with Cominco. Residing by turn in Kimberley, Tulsequah, Salmo, Kimberley, and Trail (all in BC), he retired as the Manager, Environmental Control in 1984. The prior year, he married Pauline Glover (d. 2004). In 2006, he moved a last time to Calgary and the Eau Claire Retirement Residence. A fine gentleman and jovial host, Nigel enjoyed storytelling and singing, bridge and reading, gardening and golf. He was a longstanding member of the Anglican Church.
