Obituary of Roderick Ashley LONG

June 17, 1927 – August 4, 2018 After a brief struggle with cancer, Rod went to be with his Lord and Saviour on August 4 , 2018 at the age of 91 years. Rod was the youngest of 8 born, in Kelliher, SK. His entire working life was spent in the farm implement business, first working with his father and then branching out to be an independent Massey (Harris) Ferguson, Versatile, Morris, Heston dealer in Weyburn, SK. He was an astute businessman and recognized for many of his accomplishments. Once he retired from the farm implement dealership, he retired to Airdrie, AB to enjoy his time with his family. Rod has been an avid reader, discusser, and storyteller especially with history and business. He perfected his art in wood working after retirement, especially with Intarsia, gifting many pieces for charity auctions over the years. Rod was an active member of All Saints Anglican Church (Weyburn), St. Clement (Balzac), Masons and Shriners. He was especially proud of his volunteerism with the Shriners, due to their charity work and support of The Shriners Hospitals for Children. He will be remembered for his wit, sense of humour, love, devotion and generosity for his wife, children, family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 69 years, Lillian, his son Ashley (Barb), daughters Audrey Bergen and Leslie Leontowich (Duane); grandchildren, Andrea Nelson (Ken), Ryan Long (Lisa), Michael Long (Adriane), Meigan Bergen (Leigh), Paul Bergen (Joanne), Fayth Bergen, Gabrielle Bergen (Rob), Sarah Leontowich (Dave), Luke Leontowich; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law Jack Archibald ;and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two grandchildren Erica Long and Tamara Leontowich; his brother Gus; and sisters, Olive, Edith, Ethel, Grace, Gladys, Linda. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Clements Anglican Church () on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Reception to follow at Woodside Senior Centre, ().
